About this role
About the Department
The Human Resources Benefits Generalist II will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of the Human Resources Department including administering and supporting county employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement, and voluntary plans. This position ensures accurate benefit processing, provides employee education, and supports compliance and reporting requirements. While the role is benefits-focused, it also supports key operational HR functions such as onboarding, data management, and compliance tracking.

Position Duties

- Manages the end-to-end processing of employee data changes—including new hire benefits, benefit changes, and terminations.
- Conducts regular audits of employee records to verify data integrity, identify discrepancies, and ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Verifies employee data information on status changes.
- Coordinates annual open enrollment including employee communication, system updates, and vendor collaboration.
- Assists employees with benefits questions, claim issues, eligibility, and life event changes.
- Documents feedback and identify trends to support retention and engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to recommend improvements based on exit data from new retirees.
- Supervises the maintenance of personnel benefit files in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
- Assists with benefit onboarding, compliance tracking, and HR reporting.
- Manages the employee benefit survey program and other special projects as assigned.
- Reviews cost and usage rates of existing benefit programs to assess actual and perceived value
- Assists with the wellness program.
- Assist HR staff with benefits fair and other HR hosted events.
- Prepare reimbursement requests for vendors, ensuring compliance with purchasing policies.
- Schedules background checks, credit and motor vehicle checks, and drug screens.
- Coordinates retirement dates with employees.
- Monitors the Ben-Admin vendor.
- Completes new hire dependent eligibility checks, including enrollments, forms and documentation.
- Completes special projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Strong benefit knowledge.

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data and prepare reports.
- Ability to present information clearly to diverse retirement and employee audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of related experience in HR including benefits.
- Current and valid Class C driver license required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Degree in Human Resources, Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Prior HRIS implementation experience.
Other Qualifications
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
