Job Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Intern will support HR by assisting with initiatives, activities and events that help foster a people-centered workplace culture. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting connection and belonging efforts across the state of Kansas while enhancing organizational culture, employee engagement, and community outreach.

“This position is eligible to work hybrid or onsite in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.”

What you’ll do

  • Support internal events and activities that promote connection, cultural awareness, and belonging.

  • Assist the Director or team members with identifying and coordinating employee participation in community events sponsored by the organization.

  • Conduct research to identify and stay current on workforce trends related to belonging, engagement, and employee experience.

  • Help write internal communications such as articles or announcements that highlight Connection and Belonging initiatives, events, and successes.

  • Help gather employee feedback related to Connection and Belonging initiatives and assist with organizing insights to support program improvement.

  • Help track and verify commitments related to community partnerships and sponsored events, ensuring promised benefits are fulfilled.

What you need

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of or interest in inclusion, belonging, equity, and organizational culture.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort drafting messages for diverse audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

  • Willingness to work with people of all backgrounds, at all levels of the organization and across teams.

  • Ability to think creatively and assist with solutions to everyday challenges.

  • Openness to learning about diverse perspectives and experiences.

  • Ability to listen, learn, and incorporate feedback into work.

Education and Experience: 

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program (preferred majors may include Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Sociology, Psychology, Business, Public Administration, or a related field).

  • Coursework, campus involvement, volunteer work, or student leadership related to inclusion, engagement, or community building is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

  • Ability to look at a computer screen for prolonged periods.

  • Occasional walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, or reach.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.

Compensation

$26.50 hourly

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid.  All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
