About this role
About the Department
Support day-to-day HR functions including recruitment and retention, HRIS and payroll, labor and employee relations, benefits, safety and risk management.
Position Duties
- Assist with recruiting activities including but not limited to: writing job descriptions, advertising, scheduling interviews, selection, completing backgrounds and processing drug screens.
- Assist with general office work such as data entry, phones, records retention, benefit administration, applicant tracking and verifications of employment
- Assist department with organizing and maintaining personnel files and other HR records to ensure compliance with legal requirements
- Collect and compile data for market surveys and research various wage and benefit issues
- Assist with employee questions, send out employee communication emails, respond to verifications of employment
- Assist in the annual open enrollment process
- Work on special projects
- Provide general administrative support and back-up to other staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth’s CIVIC values (customer focus, integrity, visionary, inclusion and connection) and comfort with supporting and advancing the city council’s strategic priorities
Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources
Must have ability to work independently, have high attention to detail and take initiative on projects
Must have excellent communication and coordination skills and proven ability to work effectively with people of all backgrounds and identities
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple processes, programs, and procedures simultaneously
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications
Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with municipal government operations
Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information System)
Knowledge of US labor laws
Other paid or volunteer experience in an office setting
