POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Intern to join our HR team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across all functional areas of Human Resources, including talent acquisition, union and employee relations, training and development, compensation and benefits, HR operations, and compliance. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, adaptable, and passionate about building a career in HR. The intern will support daily HR operations and contribute to projects that enhance the employee experience while learning how HR supports both union and non-union employees in the construction industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
HR Operations & Compliance
Maintain and update employee files and HRIS systems.
Assist with compliance-related tasks such as I-9 verification and policy updates.
Support internal audits and documentation processes.
Provide support with employee inquiries and HRIS data entry.
Conduct HR audits (e.g., I-9s, personnel files, and union records) to ensure compliance with legal and company requirements.
Employee Relations & Engagement
Assist in organizing and volunteering at company events, recognition programs, and wellness activities.
Gain exposure to HR practices in a unionized environment.
Observe employee relations process, grievance handling, and learn about collective bargaining agreements.
Training & Development
Support the coordination of training sessions and workshops.
Track required learning completion for new employees.
Help track employee training records and feedback.
Projects & Research
Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

The employee is regularly required to use a computer/laptop/iPad in an office environment with natural and/or fluorescent lighting, and to navigate between office building floors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employees may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is exposed to environmental conditions, including working near machines and being subjected to loud noises associated with construction sites. Exposed to variable weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat. Also exposed to variable terrain.
Additional Job Description:
Base Compensation: $20.00/hr.
Interns are eligible for Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time. Accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours each year.
