Overview
The Human Resources Intern supports the Human Resources department in the daily administration of hotel HR operations. This position provides hands-on experience in recruiting, employee relations, onboarding, HR systems, and hospitality policies and procedures. The intern will interact with associates across all departments and assist in delivering a positive associate experience consistent with HEI Hotels & Resorts standards.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with recruiting activities, including learning to conduct phone screens and scheduling interviews for non-management hotel positions.
- Support the development and execution of a college recruiting program
- Attend daily departmental stand-up meetings and observe employee relations practices
- Provide HR office coverage by answering phone calls, greeting associates, and serving as a first point of contact for associate inquiries
- Learn and utilize the HRIS system (Workday) for administrative and employee-related processes
- Assist with associate relations events and recognition, as needed, e.g. Associate of the Month program, Associate Anniversary Awards program, etc.
- Assist with new hire onboarding and co-conduct orientation sessions with support from the HR Representative
- Coordinate all other pre-selection activities, including drug testing; reference checks, etc., to ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures
- Learn and apply hotel policies, procedures, and HR compliance standards
- Respond to all interviewed applicants via telephone or letter within the required time frame.
- Always maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information
- Perform additional HR administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
Hotel experience preferred.
Knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing plans, security and safety programs, personnel and labor relations, preparation of business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance programs, hospitality law, and long-range planning.
Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishment of goals.
Able to set priorities, plan, organize, and delegate.
Written communication skills to be concise, well organized, complete, and clear.
Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines.
Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences, such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public etc.
Pursuing a degree in Human Resources or related field or recent graduate
Compensation
