Overview:

2026 Summer College Internship Program for Human Resources - Harbor Foods Group

 

The Human Resources Intern will assist Harbor’s HR leadership across various states and work groups, gaining experience and exposure to HR operations, including onboarding, recruiting, benefits, compliance, leave of absence, and employee relations.   **Harbor Internships are onsite positions in Lacey, WA for students with existing residence in the south Puget Sound region, WA**

 Education and Experience:

  • Current junior or senior standing in Human Resources or a closely related discipline is required.

Compensation:  $20/hour

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions (subject to change):

  • Shadow HR leaders with FMLA/State Leave Programs to include administering Maternity and Paternity Leaves of absence.
  • Shadow Benefit leader with plan administration, benefits enrollment, and billing, to include organizing benefit SharePoint folders and leading the benefit education section of new hire orientation.
  • Shadow Recruiters then screen and schedule interviews for operations positions in our Lacey Distribution Center and Kent Distribution Center.
  • Support and administer some aspects of the life cycle of a HR team member, including:
    • Post job openings and schedule interviews
    • Assist with onboarding procedures, including gathering necessary documents and facilitating new hire orientation.
    • Shadow and answer policy questions
    • Shadow HR Leadership with employee relations
    • Assist with the process and administer termination, including being present for employee separations.
  • Assist with scanning project to support HR paperless initiative.
  • With the support of Leadership, build a compliance audit schedule and administer an audit.
  • Build Job Description Audit schedule and upload all company Job descriptions to the HRIS.
  • Assist with the preparation of employee communications and teamunity to learn about other key departments within the company, build networks, and relationships.
  • Participate in informational interviews with department heads and executives. 
  • Experience hands on day in the life with departments outside the office (Sales, Transportation, Operations).
  • Receive mentorship with Internship Leaders to cover various business topics related to career development, networking, interview best practices, AI, and more.
  • Develop a group project and presentation for Leadership Team
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Curious, proactive, organized, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Strong interest in HR, benefits, compliance, or employee experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
