About the Department

The City of Surprise is seeking a motivated and service-oriented Human Resources Specialist to join our HR Operations team. This position plays an important role in supporting the employee lifecycle from recruitment to onboarding and new hire orientation. As part of a collaborative HR team, this role works closely with departments across the organization to help deliver a positive candidate and employee experience while supporting key HR programs and processes. The position also assists with maintaining HR systems and records, coordinates onboarding activities, and serves as a resource for employees and departments on a variety of HR-related matters.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys working with people. Strong communication skills, a customer-service mindset, and the ability to build positive working relationships across departments are essential for success in this role.

SUMMARY
Incumbents are required to have functional knowledge and perform administrative support in multiple human resources areas such as general Human Resources operations, risk management, and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)/Payroll. Incumbents are responsible for tasks such as completing data entry, maintaining different types of employee records and information, assisting with various requests for information, and preparing human resources-related reports. Incumbents are required to understand and use limited discretion in applying laws, rules, regulations, and policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree and one year of human resources, customer service and/or administrative support in a professional environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.  Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
