Minimum Education and Experience

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. See the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide for details.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from a four-year college or university, with course work applicable to human resources; or an associate degree in a related field and two (2) years of experience in compensation theory and practice; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management prefers candidates with experience working in a large enterprise (1,000+ employees) human resources office with responsibility for administering and interpreting pay/time/leave policies and procedures. Candidates with NC state government experience and/or experience with functional roles within a Integrated HR/Payroll system (not Employee Self Service) also strongly desired.

Preference will be given to those with Integrated HR/Payroll/SAP experience.

Attach cover letter and résumé.

Your cover letter should describe your experience administering and interpreting pay policies and procedures and should detail your experience, if any, with the Integrated HR/Payroll system.
