The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
This position provides salary administration support to the facility. Calculates salary qualifications for new hires, promotions, in-range adjustments, etc. Collaborates with facility management to ensure salary offers are appropriate for the job class. Keys employee actions into Fiore and follows through to the completion of each action. Position uses the Fiore system to administer all areas of time and leave management. Corrects time entries on an as-needed basis. Troubleshoots leave or pay problems that pertain to negative leave balances or payroll discrepancies. Oversees the accrual and usage of compensatory time to include holiday comp, gap hours, and overtime comp. Manages the adverse weather leave liabilities. Provides information to employees on policies surrounding time and leave management. Works with employees in the preparation for retirement. This position manages and performs all aspects of Personnel. Manages all separations and leaves of absence including FMLA, Short Term Disability, Extended Illness, and Workers' Compensation. Processes ADA and handles Voluntary Shared Leave requests. Maintains Personnel and employee medical files. Facilitates New Hire Orientation and assists all employees with benefits enrollmentKnowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
There was an update to the Salary Range Effective February 1,2026. The new salary range is 33,902.00 - $59,327.00
Basic to working knowledge of State HR systems and processes. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; to express ideas clearly and concisely; to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within area of responsibility; able to learn and apply rules, procedures, and practices for various human resources management activities or personnel actions.
Management Preferences:
Documented knowledge of personnel management.
Documented knowledge of computer software Microsoft Office
Documented knowledge of Integrated HR Payroll System (formerly Beacon/SAP)
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.

The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.EEO Statement
