Description of Work
This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class coordinate all Personnel activities carried out by the Personnel Department at the direction of the Management Team.Key Duties Include:
- Responsible processing HR transactions related to Leave of Absence, Family Medical Leave, Family Illness Leave, Military Leave of Absence, Voluntary Shared Leave, Workers Compensation Claims, Disability Requests, Retirement Packages, Separations and Reinstatements.
- Monitor time and personnel records within the SAP payroll system.
- Supervise the daily operations of the Personnel Office at the facility.
- Be well versed in employee benefits in order to assist employees with questions, concerns and issues related to their benefits.
- Be able to review, verify, maintain and process all standard HR documents, such as pre-employment materials, change of status forms and HR action documents.
- Prepare and maintain relevant HR documentation, forms and records in accordance with DAC Central HR and OSHR policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Gather information and run routine reports from the SAP payroll system and be able to review and analyze information in order to process necessary HR transactions.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $33,902 - $59,327
- Working knowledge of State HR systems and processes.
- Basic knowledge of federal and state laws, and State policies, procedures and practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; to express ideas clearly and concisely; to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within area of responsibility; able to learn and apply rules, procedures, and practices for various human resources management activities or personnel actions
Management Preferences: Previous experience with SAP Payroll System (Formerly known as BEACON); and excellent computer and office skills to include experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access Database use/creation.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
