Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Lays out fabrication, installs hand and guard rails, room partitions and dividers and removes and accomplishes repair of metal doors, analyzes automatic doors operators, adjust, repair and overhauls same and replaces door closers, metal sash balances. Fabricates, repair and install window screens. Perform preventive maintenance or complete overhaul of items such as condensate, sump, circulating pumps and other pumps. Performs standard preventive maintenance and overhaul, and evaluates and determents malfunction or problem areas and repair of more complex equipment and repair or modifies equipment to meet required standards of performance. These equipment's include such items as air compressors, various pumps and exhaust fans, performs preventive maintenance and repair, performs major overhaul of dietetic equipment such as industrial ovens, mixers, dish washers, etc. Repairs and overhauls building management equipment such as automatic floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, automatic pressure washers, etc. Repairs and maintains engineering equipment such as power hacksaws, handsaws, drill presses, grinders, hoists, etc. Repairs all types of power hand tools. Performs work of other trades such as touch up painting using pre-mixed paints; patches plaster in small areas disrupted during repair work; installs piping and tubing on specified jobs not requiring plumbing mechanics. Makes simple sheet metal repairs; does miscellaneous wood work as may develop to expedite job assignments. The incumbent may infrequently be detailed to work odd shifts, or work op an overtime basis, to accomplish maintenance or repairs to equipment critical to the hospital function. Reading and interpreting blue prints, making safety and preventive inspections of utility in accordance with regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT Physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes, and shapes. Physical effort related to movements such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, and bending. Strain related to lack of movement such as standing in place, crouching, or stooping for extended periods of time. WORK CONDITIONS: Lighting, heating, and ventilation in work area. Gases and fumes. Hazards. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
