About this role

Our 10-week paid Summer Internship Program is designed to attract and develop future leaders. This opportunity is for individuals currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing career opportunities in retail. As a Technology Intern at Michaels, you will be assigned to a team and gain hands-on experience with core responsibilities, relevant projects, and professional development opportunities.

Major Activities

  • Collaborate with fellow interns and cross-functional partners on meaningful projects that directly contribute to our business goals. This includes an intern group project presented to company leaders.
  • Actively participate in learning and development opportunities designed to help you grow personally and professionally.
  • Develop a diverse skillset through hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of the business. This includes facility tours, mentorship, Q&A panels, in-store experience, and more.
  • Contribute your fresh perspective and creative ideas to your assigned team and your intern group project.
  • Manage your projects or tasks, demonstrating initiative, time management, and the ability to produce good work results.
  • Embody our culture of collaboration and inclusivity by learning from and engaging with your peers and leaders.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong programming skills in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++, JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of software development fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.

Other

  • Previous coding projects or internship experience is a plus

Preferred Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with development tools and integrated development environments (IDEs) relevant to the role, such as Visual Studio Code, Eclipse,
  • Familiarity with web development technologies like HTML, CSS, and front-end JavaScript frameworks
  • Understanding of database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL databases)
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and an understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Willingness to adapt to new technologies, tools, and methodologies as required by the internship.
