Position Duties

This position oversees the safety, fire prevention, and security functions that protect residents, staff, and visitors at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home. It plays a central role in coordinating training, reviewing incidents, guiding emergency planning, and ensuring regulatory compliance. As an Institutional Fire Safety Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Safety Program Leadership: Develop and run a facility-wide safety program that aligns with state requirements and departmental policies
  • Security Oversight: Manage security officers and direct daily security activities, including patrols, monitoring, and emergency response actions
  • Incident Review: Investigate workplace incidents, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrences
  • Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate disaster and fire drills, test emergency plans, and train staff in proper response procedures
  • Regulatory Compliance: Inspect facilities, maintain safety-related equipment, and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal standards
  • Staff Training Support: Provide safety education, conduct required training sessions, and guide employees in safe work practices

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of institution safety work, including one year of fire prevention and fire fighting work, and completion of two years of college; or 
  • One year of institutional fire and safety work, and a bachelor's degree; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
