About this role

Sonneborn, an HF Sinclair company, is seeking a motivated Environmental Intern to join our Petrolia, Pennsylvania team. This position will support the Environmental Department by assisting staff with a variety of environmental projects, tasks, and compliance activities. The intern will work under close and frequent supervision while gaining hands‑on experience in environmental programs and operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates project assignments with those of other environmental personnel and technicians in their discipline group.
  • Conducts research and analysis of environmental and operating data.
  • Provide reports from research and analysis with recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee entry of pertinent records and documentation of excess emissions and related operating data.
  • Performs technical/regulatory analysis, field sampling and testing, and report preparation.
  • Manage a project related to an environmental matter.
  • Assists with other duties assigned by the Environmental Manager.
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Some completed courses needed for a Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Science or Engineering field are required. Completion of junior level courses is preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Basic knowledge of Environmental concepts and EPA regulations.
  • Ability to apply knowledge analytically.
  • Stay abreast of new technological developments and processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of data.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Petroleum refinery and driver-based environment including but not limited to chemical, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, and exposure to risk of electrical shock. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
