Position: Summer Internship – IT Audit

Job Description

Internal Audit is responsible for providing independent assurance and guidance across all lines of business and team members are encouraged to think creatively, challenge current processes, build relationships, identify, and evaluate current and emerging risks, and hold themselves and teammates accountable in a flexible and delivery driven environment.

An IT Audit Intern assists with audit planning and fieldwork for technology-focused assurance and advisory engagements with emphasis on information and cyber security, technology and infrastructure, business solutions and applications, and data governance and technology. The intern helps test the design and operating effectiveness of technology controls (e.g., identity and access, network and platform security, cloud operations, change/patch management, logging and monitoring, incident response, and business continuity), documents audit testing, identifies observations and recommendations, and communicates the results to Audit Management. The intern operates as an individual contributor within a collaborative team, delivers quality work, exercises sound judgment and discretion, and meets pre-established milestones and department metrics for assigned engagements. This internship provides meaningful exposure, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.

Key responsibilities for the role:

  • Prepare clear, complete, and well-organized audit documentation and workpapers in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and IIA standards.

  • Support the identification of risks and controls in technology processes under the guidance of Internal Audit team members and assist in tailoring predefined test plans and templates.

  • Assist in testing the design and operating effectiveness of controls and conformance with relevant policies and guidance (e.g., NIST CSF, COBIT/CIS Controls, FFIEC, GLBA).

  • With guidance from the Internal Audit team, participate in meetings with internal stakeholders (e.g., Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Application Development, Business Lines) to observe processes and gather audit evidence.

  • Strengthen foundational knowledge of cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, IT operations, and the banking/financial services industry.

  • Work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Contribute to the department’s efficiency and strategic initiatives (e.g., improving templates, organizing artifacts, light process automation).

  • Support the use of automated audit techniques and basic data analysis (e.g., Excel pivots/lookups; leveraging Microsoft CoPilot) to enhance audit effectiveness.

Key skills and experience for the role:

  • Coursework in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Accounting/IS Audit, Data Analytics, or related field.

  • Familiarity with IT disciplines (information security/cybersecurity, infrastructure and networking including the cloud environment, artificial intelligence, etc) or audit practices and standards.

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, CoPilot and data analytics tools.

  • Strong writing skills for clear and concise documentation.

  • Critical thinker with the ability to deal well with ambiguity.

  • Curiosity, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements for Interns:

  • Current undergraduate rising Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited college or university who is pursuing a degree in related field and has an interest in the banking/financial services industry

  • Resourceful, enthusiastic, and proactive

  • Highly organized

  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail

  • Experience creating and delivering presentations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic

  • Ability to learn quickly and solve problems

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S.

The estimated hourly rate for this position is $21.00/hr. to $23.00/hr. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
