About the Department
The Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking dedicated and highly motivated applicants for an Investigator position. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to coordinate with prosecutors and local law enforcement to assist in criminal investigations, gather and preserve evidence, interview victims and witnesses, locate suspects, prepare investigative reports, and testify in court. This position requires sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively with prosecutors and law enforcement agencies.
Position Duties
- Conduct independent and prosecutor-directed criminal investigations
- Interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and other relevant parties
- Collect, analyze, and preserve physical, digital, and documentary evidence
- Prepare detailed investigative reports, affidavits, and case summaries
- Assist in the execution of search warrants and arrest warrants as authorized by law
- Assist prosecutors with trial preparation
- Review body-worn camera footage, surveillance video, jail calls, and digital evidence
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies
- Serve subpoenas and locate reluctant or missing witnesses
- Testify in court proceedings regarding investigative findings
- Maintain strict confidentiality of criminal investigations and prosecutorial work product
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Prosecutor and trial staff
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required (post-graduate degree in criminal justice or a related field a plus)
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible law enforcement investigative experience preferred
- Current or previous Ohio Peace Officer Certification (or ability to obtain required certification) preferred
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation
Other Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of criminal law, rules of evidence, and investigative procedures
- Strong interviewing and interrogation techniques
- Experience preparing search warrants and investigative reports
- Ability to analyze complex cases and identify investigative leads
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and law enforcement records management systems (familiarity with Matrix case management system preferred)
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and respond to urgent investigative needs as necessary
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle, sit or stand for extended periods, lift evidence or equipment as needed, and safely perform investigative duties in office, courtroom, and field environments.
