About this role

Investment Analyst - Cortes Capital

Location:

Oklahoma City, OK, US, 73120

Req ID: 488290

Cortes Capital is the Oklahoma City-based private investment office for the Love family. Après Vous Capital, LLC is the management company for Cortes Capital and employs the investment and operating staff that conduct the investment activities.

Basic Purpose: Cortes Capital is seeking an Investment Analyst to provide essential support to deal teams and deal leads. They contribute to theme development and research, sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, as well as portfolio construction and monitoring. Analysts play a vital role throughout the entire investment process at Cortes Capital. Their research approach resembles that of an investigative journalist, exploring potential themes such as industries, strategies, and investment types, along with investment opportunities including funds, co-investments, and direct investments. This involves comprehensive desktop and on-the-ground research and analysis.

Job Functions:

  • Work collaboratively with other investment professionals to provide secondary support for deal teams. This includes working with internal deal teams but also coordinating with private equity general partners and deal leads, third party marketing agents, attorneys, and other service providers.
  • Develop an informed hypothesis based on monitoring fundamental market and economic news and test that hypothesis through research and analysis. Present results of the analysis to the senior team.
  • Conduct market mapping and build a landscape of potential investment opportunities within each thematic area of focus. Source from networks, databases, and other desktop research.
  • Gather materials from potential investments and conduct initial reviews of those materials. Use pattern recognition to assess those that may be compelling.
  • Take notes from calls and meetings with potential investment opportunities that may include private equity funds, independent sponsors, and management teams.
  • Conduct data room reviews to evaluate the people, process, returns, historical value creation, risks, and other criteria. Compile findings into a finalized report and present your findings to the senior team.
  • Assist in conducting reference calls related to assessment of the investment.
  • Assist the senior team in analyzing a host of qualitative and quantitative findings to develop an investment recommendation. This generally includes taking notes, cleaning up notes, drafting initial summaries from notes, developing initial quantitative work and models, and being responsible for digging into key follow up areas from diligence.
  • Meet in person and tour offices and facilities of potential investments and for ongoing monitoring of existing investments.
  • Engage in ongoing debates with the deal team and the broader investment team. Provide opinions regarding investment opportunities that are well formulated and supported by diligence.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of the LPA and other relevant legal documents related to the investment. Present findings to the deal team lead.
  • Monitor ongoing developments of investments currently in diligence and after they have made, including reviewing quarterly reports, financial statements, and participating in ongoing update calls with the private equity sponsor and/or management teams.
  • Participate in ad hoc research projects related to market and economic developments; calculate performance and conduct benchmarking analysis for existing investments.
  • Travel is required on occasion, primarily for meeting with prospective investments but also for attending selective conferences and networking events.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor interns.
  • Other tasks as assigned by deal leads and the senior investment team.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus or significant coursework in finance, accounting, or economics is required.
  • Must have excellent academic credentials.
  • Minimum of at least one year of experience in an investment related field (private equity, endowment, foundation, family office, investment research and/or investment banking). At least one internship in these areas qualifies.
  • Willingness to work towards obtaining the CFA and/or CAIA designation.

Our vision is to deliver exceptional long-term returns for the Love family while defining the standard for growth focused family offices. You will be part of the team that sources, evaluates, and selects investment opportunities, in addition to monitoring existing investments.

We are unique from many family offices as we focus exclusively on private investing, including private equity, growth equity, and venture capital. Our investment approach is the result of bringing together some of the best practices that we have learned over years in institutional investing. We source broadly, engage in dynamic discussions with general partners and management teams, provide candid feedback, and set realistic expectations. We invest in funds, co-investments, and direct investments, focusing on thematic areas such as infrastructure services, industrials, life sciences, software and more.

We seek the most intellectually curious individuals with a passion for investing. A key distinction for analysts that are successful at Cortes is an insatiable desire for learning and continuous improvement. An ability to work independently AND as part of a collaborative team is a must. A strong understanding of private capital markets is helpful.

Our Culture:
