Position Summary:

The Senior IT Applications Operations Analysts applies technical skills, system knowledge and subject matter expertise to diagnose and resolve application and data related problems that are unusual, more difficult or have a broad scope.  Assignments are based on extensive knowledge of concepts, principles or practices in a specific discipline, field or area of expertise, and require seasoned, experienced-based judgment in applying and adapting techniques. Manages and maintains multiple production and non-production SmartMeter Applications. Performs overall maintenance and monitoring of the applications, including tool development, critical software and OS patching, support of IT Risk Management and Disaster Recovery programs, for all test and production environments. Configures application for optimum performance requirements to meet business requirements. Develops conversion and tool implementation plans.  Review and assess business impact and IT operational impact of proposed changes and updates to the application software, interfaces, daily operational schedule, hardware, LAN/WAN network and network/firewall/router components, database, JMS/Webservices/ESB and operating system.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Interacts with users, business stakeholders, team members, and liaisons from other external groups, including suppliers or contractors, to discuss and diagnose critical or complex issues and incidents
  • Create and update Technical Design and Architecture documents, Deployment Guide, Operations Guide, etc.
  • May act in a lead capacity to support complex remediation activities, including the design and implementation of complex database routines within the context of existing requirements, business expectations, and design constraints.
  • Provide application support for mission critical SmartMeter solutions. Monitor application for performance, maintenance and tune application and interfaces to maintain service level agreements. Execute data correction routines (DCRs) to maintain data accuracy.
  • Support and implement application security testing in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, Information Protection, and Internal Auditing standards
  • Oversees, mentors, and provides technical guidance to less experienced Application Operations Analysts.
  • Provide application support for mission critical SmartMeter solutions. Monitor application for performance, maintenance and tune application and interfaces to maintain service level agreements. Execute data correction routines (DCRs) to maintain data accuracy.
  • Assist other SMOC Applications Operations Analysts in resolving complex issues; assist root cause analysis and solutions. Use in-depth skills in solving SmartMeter operational and computing issues. 
  • Provide in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience for SmartMeter application solutions to internal business clients and to project groups leveraging SmartMeter-related technologies. Provide analysis and impact assessment for proposed changes and updates to SmartMeter applications, interfaces, and daily operating schedule.
  • Provide project updates and reporting for assigned projects. Participate in functional testing and operational testing.
  • Interacts with users, business stakeholders, team members, and liaisons from other external groups, including suppliers or contractors, to discuss and diagnose critical or complex issues and incidents.
  • Provide end‑to‑end support for Meter Data Management System (MDMS) operations, including ingestion, VEE ( Validate Edit & Estimate) processing, aggregation, and data publishing
  • Lead analysis and resolution of complex data quality issues, system defects, and integration failures
  • Design, configure, and optimize VEE rules, exception handling, and performance tuning
  • Design, monitor, and troubleshoot MDMS batch jobs, workflows, dependencies, and calendars
  • Lead investigation and resolution of complex MDMS and scheduling failures, including missed runs, data delays, and downstream impacts
  • Oversee and support integrations between MDMS and other enterprise systems (CIS, AMI, Analytics, Data Warehouse, etc.)
  • Lead MDMS upgrades, patches, and major releases, including vendor coordination, cutover planning, and production readiness
  • Act as the technical lead for AMI and metering programs, including large‑scale meter deployments, firmware upgrades, and high‑visibility initiatives (e.g., RIVA, Gas AMI)
  • Define and execute comprehensive testing strategies for system changes, defect fixes, and new functionality
  • Assess risks and dependencies associated with MDMS changes and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior MDMS analysts and support staff
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, runbooks, and operational standards
  • Participate in incident management, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, compliance, and data governance teams to ensure regulatory and privacy requirements are met

 

Qualifications

Minimum 

BA/BS in Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience

Minimum 5 years of programming analysis experience.

 

Desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of hands‑on experience leading system upgrades, major releases, and production support for mission‑critical systems
  • Experience in Application Development Frameworks, Coding Guidelines and Database Standards and adheres to these when designing and developing.
  • Can make realistic, feasible recommendations and facilitate implementation of effective solutions.
  • Experience supporting MDMS and AMI systems within a utility environment
  • Experience with Smart Meter technologies, interval data, and utility business processes
  • Extensive experience with at least one enterprise MDMS platform (e.g., Landis+Gyr, Itron, Oracle, Siemens)
  • Strong expertise in SQL and advanced data analysis for troubleshooting, reporting, and validation
  • Experience supporting SOX‑regulated systems, including compliance with access controls, audit logging, and change management requirements
  • Experience working directly with vendors to drive defect resolution, roadmap alignment, and delivery commitments
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and make sound technical and operational decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑level communication

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Landis+Gyr MDMS platform
  • Experience supporting both electric and gas MDMS implementations
  • Experience working IBM power series infrastructure
  • Familiarity with AMI head‑end systems and communication networks
  • Experience with large‑scale AMI deployments or enterprise transformations
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting, audits, and compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting time‑of‑use, net metering, demand response, or EV programs

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Oracle databases (SQL tuning, PL/SQL programming, data validation, performance troubleshooting)
  • Proficient in Oracle WebLogic administration and support within enterprise utility applications
  • Extensive Experience supporting applications on AIX/Linux platforms, including job monitoring and log analysis
  • Proficient in Python/UNIX scripting for automation, data analysis, operational reporting, and problem resolution
  • Experience troubleshooting application, database, and OS‑level issues in a production environment
  • Strong hands‑on experience with enterprise scheduling/workload automation tools, such as UC4
  • Proven experience supporting mission‑critical batch processing and time‑sensitive data flows
