General Summary:
The IT Business Analyst I plays a key role on an Agile delivery team, partnering closely with the Product Owner and engineering teams to ensure high‑quality, user‑focused solutions. This role is responsible for defining and documenting clear acceptance criteria, contributing to story refinement, and supporting the development lifecycle through strong elicitation, analysis, and collaboration practices. The IT Business Analyst I actively participates in team discussions, supports estimation of work, and helps maintain a well‑structured, accurate product backlog that aligns with business priorities.Successful candidates bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate customer and business needs into actionable requirements. This role thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and contributes meaningfully to delivering valuable software features that meet customer expectations.
Job Specifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent practical experience
2+ years of experience working as part of an Agile team
Background as a Business Analyst with exposure to Scrum Master responsibilities; Scrum Master certifications are a plus
Demonstrated strong analytical abilities and logical problem‑solving approach
High degree of attention to detail
Strong oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting and communicating requirements clearly
Passionate about business direction, team priorities, customer experience, and delivering results
Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and able to operate with minimal guidance
Strong team player with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and organizational areas
Innovative mindset with the ability to approach challenges creatively
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
IIBA certifications are a plus
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain an end‑to‑end understanding of the IT Delivery roadmap and ensure updates are accurately reflected in backlog and ALM tools.
Lead and facilitate refinement sessions and collaborate with the Product Owner and SMEs to create clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria.
Ensure backlog items meet Definition of Ready/Done and align with enterprise planning standards and intake frameworks.
Preserve the integrity of work items during decomposition; identify descoping risks and drive required discovery activities.
Incorporate client personas, customer journeys, and user experience insights into backlog refinement and requirements development.
Ensure product/adoption KPIs and data requirements are identified early and embedded into delivery scope.
Partner with engineering teams to validate acceptance criteria, support test execution, manage defects, and ensure readiness for automation.
Produce accurate, structured documentation and maintain up‑to‑date ALM data to support reporting, transparency, and prioritization decisions.
Support Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and coordination activities across Delivery, PO, Engineering, and BA functions.
Evaluate third‑party/cloud system capabilities, perform necessary configurations, and contribute process and product improvement opportunities.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$60,500.00-$123,400.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
