Weyerhaeuser Company is one of the world's largest private owners of softwood timber and one of the world's largest producers of softwood lumber, hardwood lumber, engineered lumber, softwood market pulp, and containerboard and paper-based packaging products. Our IT teams combine cutting-edge technology with continuously changing inventory to collect, store, transform and report on data to our key business partners.  

Our Data & Analytics team is seeking a Data Science Intern to support initiatives in Supply Chain and Pricing AI. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to work on real-world business problems using machine learning, statistics, and advanced analytics.

As a Data Science Intern, you will partner with data scientists, analytics professionals, and business stakeholders to explore data, develop models, evaluate results, and help translate analytical work into actionable business insights. This role is ideal for someone who is curious, analytical, collaborative, and excited to learn how AI solutions can create measurable business impact. This role also offers hands-on experience in an AI-native development environment, where modern generative AI assistants, coding copilots, and emerging agentic workflows are used to accelerate experimentation and improve how data science solutions are developed and operationalized.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support the design, development, and evaluation of machine learning and advanced analytics solutions for supply chain and pricing use cases. 
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for business improvement. 
  • Build, clean, and validate datasets and features used in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and experimentation. 
  • Assist with model development, testing, validation, and performance assessment. 
  • Partner with cross-functional teammates to help translate business needs into analytical approaches and solutions. 
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly through visualizations, summaries, and presentations. 
  • Contribute to documentation, testing, and continuous improvement of analytics workflows and data science processes.
  • Follow standard data governance, security, and development practices. 
     

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field or graduated within 6 months of application. 
  • Coursework or project experience in machine learning, statistics, predictive analytics, optimization, or data science. 
  • Experience programming in Python and/or SQL. 
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred:

  • Exposure to machine learning frameworks, statistical modeling, or experimentation methods. 
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. 
  • Experience working with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms. 
  • Exposure to data engineering, ETL/ELT processes, or modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies. 
  • Experience using Git or other version control tools. 
  • Interest in supply chain, pricing, forecasting, optimization, or AI-enabled decision support.

Compensation: The pay rate for this position is $25 per hour.
