Job Description:

This position offers exceptional growth opportunities. As part of our organization’s technology team, you will play a critical role in delivering services and joining the mission of the Nebraska Library Commission. This role provides a clear path for professional development, exposure to emerging technologies, and the chance to contribute to projects that shape the future of the Commission.

Under limited supervision, you will perform work related to hardware and software support, network support, systems administration, web maintenance and development, research, developing and delivering training materials. This is a fulltime position with a work requirement of 40 onsite hours per week.

The person in this position will be a member of the Nebraska Library Commission’s (NLC) Computer Team and work with other NLC staff. Work assignments may also include collaboration with Nebraska's Regional Library Systems and with staff at Nebraska libraries.


 

Responsibilities:

This position provides hardware and software support for the Nebraska Library Commission, and assists with website maintenance and development.

Duties include:

  • Responding, in a timely manner, to emails and phone calls from NLC staff, and, sometimes, staff from libraries throughout the state, requesting assistance with problems and issues involving hardware, software, and connectivity
  • Assisting staff in identifying hardware and software needs
  • Planning and overseeing software installation and configuration
  • Training staff on use of hardware and software
  • Tracking and managing software updates
  • Managing hardware/software inventory
  • Working with other staff to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot website issues
  • Monitoring website content, and facilitating corrections, changes and updates as needed
  • Creating web pages, including interactive web forms
  • Creating, monitoring, and updating documentation related to hardware, software, and infrastructure
  • Creating and updating training materials for staff
  • Providing technical support for the agency’s library automation system
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in computer science and two years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

  • Ability to communicate, with other staff and clientele, in an effective and friendly manner (electronically, over the phone, and in person)
  • Ability to multitask and triage job demands
  • Knowledge of  Microsoft workstation and server operating systems
  • Familiarity with common software utilities, protocols, and services needed to troubleshoot, manage and maintain computer systems
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS
  • Knowledge of basic networking technology and terminology.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to come up with workable solutions
  • Ability to gather problem-solving information via well-crafted web searches
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch while installing/troubleshooting equipment and cabling, and lift up to 25lbs


 

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

  • Help desk experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of basic HTML is important; CSS knowledge a plus

Hiring Specs:

  • $25.22 per hour
  • Fulltime, permanent position (40 hours weekly) Monday through Friday, 8-5.
  • Starting date: March 16, 2026
