About this role
Responsibilities
- Monitor network, system, and application security alerts and logs to identify potential security threats or suspicious activity.
- Investigate, document, and respond to security incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of security technologies, including but not limited to firewalls, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners, logging, and monitoring tools.
- Perform regular vulnerability scans and assist with remediation tracking and verification.
- Support compliance with information security regulations and standards, including HIPAA, PCI, and other applicable federal, state, and tribal requirements.
- Assist in maintaining and enforcing information security policies, procedures, and standards as directed by the Information Security Officer.
- Participate in security audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Assist with user security awareness efforts, including phishing simulations, training materials, and best-practice guidance.
- Stay current on emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and defensive technologies.
- Ensure applications meet security, compliance, and data governance requirements.
- Must attend all mandatory department trainings and meetings.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License issued in the US is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field and 1 year of experience in security or network administration; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.
- CompTIA Network + and Security + certification are preferred.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, threat vectors, and defensive controls is required.
- Experience or familiarity with security monitoring tools, endpoint protection, firewalls, and vulnerability management tools are required.
- Ability to evaluate system and network configurations and identify potential security risks.
- Experience monitoring and analyzing security events using SIEM, log management, or security monitoring tools.
- Ability to interpret systems, applications, and network logs to identify indicators of compromise (IOC) and suspicious activity.
- Ability to collect and preserve basic forensic evidence (logs, system artifacts) following established procedures.
- Understanding incident response plan frameworks and playbooks.
- Familiarity with CVEs, CVSS scoring, and patch management processes.
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/S, VPNs, and common network protocols.
- Basic understanding of firewalls, IDS/IPS, network segmentation, and access controls.
- Knowledge of computer applications including word processing, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook is required.
- Experience reviewing firewall rules, access control lists, and network configurations for security concerns.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems and Active Directory security concepts, including User and Group permissions, Authentication and Authorization, and Group Policy basics.
- Basic knowledge of server hardening and secure configurations practices.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and lead technical initiatives is required.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours when required for upgrades, maintenance, or critical issues is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
- Travel is required.
