Overview

The IT Systems Engineer 1 within HR Innovation and Strategic Support (HRISS) assists with planning, implementing, and supporting technology solutions that enhance HR systems and services. This role contributes to the design, development, and maintenance of applications and infrastructure that support business operations and enhance user interactions with HR technology.

Working as part of a team, the Systems Engineer 1 supports the development of modern technology solutions, including automation workflows and AI-enabled tools such as chatbots, agentic AI agents, and intelligent service solutions. The role assists in building and maintaining integrations, scripts, and system configurations across platforms such as Workday, Salesforce, and other enterprise systems to improve data flow, reduce manual effort, and enhance the employee experience.

The position participates in testing, troubleshooting, and system support activities, ensuring solutions meet performance, reliability, and security standards. The role also contributes to documentation, incident resolution, and continuous improvement efforts to maintain stable and effective system operations.

In a dynamic and evolving technology environment, the Systems Engineer 1 stays current with emerging technologies in automation and artificial intelligence, contributing to experimentation, prototyping, and implementation of new capabilities. Assignments are routine to moderately complex and performed under guidance, with decisions guided by established policies and procedures.


Required Skills and Abilities

1. Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Workday, Salesforce, or similar systems.

2. Exposure to automation tools, integration concepts, or workflow technologies.

3. Familiarity with AI-enabled tools such as chatbots or virtual agents.

4. Familiarity with emerging AI concepts, including large language models (LLMs) and agent-based solutions.

5. Experience working in a collaborative, team-based IT environment. Experience in higher education, HR systems, or related domains.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Exposure to HRIS, HR technology, AI-enabled tools, automation, chatbot development, or related technical work through academic, internship, or professional experience is preferred

Principal Responsibilities

1. Develops software solutions to meet customer requirements through team and individual efforts. 2. Participates in the analysis and composition of requirements, design of architectural and component software features, design and implementation of system, design and implementation of test plan, and documentation of final product. 3. May review code, write documentation, following established test procedures. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree and no experience or equivalent education and experience. Skills and Abilities Analytical and problem-solving skills. Interpersonal, written, communications and organizational skills. Familiarity with basic systems analysis methods and techniques. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a field.
