Job Summary

The Cybersecurity Engineer (Junior) supports the day-to-day operation of enterprise security tools and processes. This role focuses on execution and learning, working under the guidance of senior engineers and leadership to help monitor, maintain, and improve the organization’s security posture. The position is an individual contributor role with no people leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, and operation of security tools such as endpoint protection, email security, identity systems, and cloud security controls.
  • Monitor security alerts and events, escalating issues according to documented procedures.
  • Support incident response activities by collecting data, following playbooks, and assisting senior responders.
  • Perform routine security tasks including access reviews, vulnerability scanning, and log review.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation and end-user security guidance.
  • Collaborate with IT and other teams to support secure system configurations.
  • Stay current on basic cybersecurity concepts, threats, and best practices through training and hands-on experience.

Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, controls, and common threat types.
  • Basic experience with security or IT tools such as directory services, endpoint protection, or ticketing systems.
  • Ability to follow documented procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and supporting internal users.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in a structured enterprise environment.

Experience

0–2 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT operations, or a related technical role. Internships, co-op experience, or hands-on lab work may be considered.

Education

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Licensing and/or Certification

Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or equivalent are a plus but not required.
