Junior Infrastructure Engineer — Azure Cloud
Location: 5000 Kansas Ave, AWG Support Center

We are seeking a Junior Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, implementation, and operation of premises and cloud-based infrastructure as part of AWG’s application modernization efforts. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on learning and applying foundational cloud infrastructure skills while working closely with senior engineers, security, networking, SRE, and application teams.
This role is well suited for recent graduates with a cloud focused degree or early career professionals with foundational experience in cloud platforms. The ideal candidate is curious, motivated, and eager to grow their technical skillset while contributing to reliable, secure, and repeatable infrastructure solutions across production, development, test, and disaster recovery environments.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Solutions (30%)
- Assist in developing infrastructure solutions based on requirements and established AWG standards.
- Support senior engineers in the implementation of cloud and on premises infrastructure components.
- Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of new features, enhancements, and infrastructure improvements. Help maintain infrastructure standards, procedures, and documentation related to deployments, upgrades, and environment maintenance.
- Contribute to technical documentation, operational runbooks, and project deliverables.
- Learn and assist with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, including Terraform modules and reusable patterns.
- Support Azure resource deployments such as virtual machines, storage, networking, and security components under guidance.
- Support Availability and Services (40%)
- Participate in 24x7 production support activities for critical solutions, including an on call rotation with guidance and escalation support.
- Respond to incidents and service requests reported by monitoring and alerting systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting cloud, server, network, and application issues using documented procedures and guidance from senior team members.
- Perform routine operational tasks such as system checks, validation, and post deployment verification.
- Support capacity and performance analysis using established tools and dashboards.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams during incidents and maintenance activities, escalating issues as appropriate.
Develop IT Strategy (15%)
- Learn to collaborate with customers and stakeholders to understand business needs and technical requirements.
- Participate in cross functional discussions with security, networking, SRE, and application teams.
- Contribute ideas and feedback toward reusable assets, patterns, and standards that support the broader AWG engineering community.
Development and Continuous Improvement Culture (15%)
- Actively participate in mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing opportunities.
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset with a willingness to learn new technologies and processes.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, or a related cloud focused field, OR equivalent practical experience.
- Foundational understanding of cloud computing concepts (IaaS, PaaS, networking, security).
- Exposure to Azure or another major cloud platform through coursework, labs, internships, or early professional experience.
- Basic understanding of scripting, automation, or Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform exposure preferred but not required).
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn through hands on experience.
- Ability to follow documented processes and work effectively within a team environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Preferred Skills & Experience
- Internship, lab, or entry level experience working with cloud infrastructure.
- Exposure to Terraform, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or version control systems.
- Familiarity with basic networking concepts (VNets, subnets, DNS, firewalls).
- Awareness of security best practice in cloud environments.
- Experience with Windows or Linux operating systems.
- Strong curiosity, initiative, and desire to grow into a senior technical role over time.
