Job Description:

STC has an opening with the NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). STC is seeking a Junior Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist to join our growing team of innovative researchers and technical professionals.

 

In this role, you will work closely with STAR scientists to develop and apply AI/ML models for weather and environmental applications using satellite observations. Responsibilities include preparing training datasets, building and validating models, and deploying solutions to operational environments. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of AI-driven environmental intelligence.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, atmospheric science, earth science, or related discipline
  • 1–6 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent programming skills in Python 3 on Linux systems
  • Demonstrated experience using AI/ML models to solve real-world problems
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with satellite data or environmental datasets is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant scientific or technical discipline
