GENERAL SUMMARY
The Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting month-end and year-end closing processes; preparing required private and government cost reports; assisting with fiscal year-end close-out reports for assigned programs; preparing audit schedules; processing purchase requests and purchase orders; supporting annual budget development; ensuring financial compliance; and implementing accounting policies and procedures. This role also performs other accounting and compliance-related duties as assigned by Senior Accountants or the Director of Finance in support of audits, month-end closing, and program fiscal monitoring by government and private funding sources.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare journal entries to record revenue, expenses, accruals, allocations, and other general ledger transactions for assigned programs.
- Review check requests, Requests for Purchase, mileage reimbursement requests, petty cash replenishment requests, and other accounting documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and required approvals prior to processing.
- Reconcile balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts to the general ledger to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end cost reports using required formats for government and private funding sources, supported by trial balances and detailed general ledger reports.
- Prepare assigned fiscal year-end audit schedules with supporting documentation and respond to additional documentation requests from external auditors.
- Prepare actual versus budget performance reports for assigned programs at month-end and year-to-date for use in CFO and leadership reports.
- Complete assigned portions of rolling cash budgets, including timing of cash receipts and disbursements.
- Prepare fiscal year-end projections of revenue and expenses for assigned programs and assist with development of the agency-wide annual budget.
- Implement and follow established accounting policies and procedures related to month-end closing, general ledger entries, procurement, petty cash, reimbursements, and check processing.
- Assist the Director of Finance and Senior Accountants with special accounting projects and ad hoc financial analysis.
- Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned using spreadsheets and other Microsoft Office applications.

REQUIRMENTS:
- Bachelor?s degree in business administration or related field, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of one (1) year of accounting experience in a nonprofit or for-profit organization.
- Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet applications; experience with MIP Fund Accounting preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy requirements related to financial records, funding information, data, and organizational information.
- Ability to work collaboratively, maintain professional relationships, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to represent the agency professionally at all times when interacting with internal staff, auditors, funding agencies, vendors, and the public.
