POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Cybersecurity Analyst, the Junior Cybersecurity Technician supports Equitas Health’s cybersecurity program by assisting with the administration and monitoring of the organization’s security tooling, threat detection, and incident response activities. This is an early-career role designed for an individual with foundational cybersecurity knowledge who is eager to develop their skills in a real-world healthcare environment. The Junior Cybersecurity Technician will work hands-on with industry-leading security platforms including SentinelOne (EDR/MDR/SIEM), Abnormal Security, Adaptive Security, FortiNAC, Fortinet, gaining broad exposure across endpoint security, network security, identity and access management, and security awareness. This position operates in a HIPAA-regulated environment and plays a direct role in protecting patient data and critical clinical systems. Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, strong attention to detail, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a small, mission-driven IT team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, traveling, driving, transporting hardware, utilizing a server and internet, problem solving, attending meetings, conducting assessments and research and presenting findings.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Adhere to the Equitas Health Confidentiality Policy.
- Assists in the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of Equitas Health’s security platforms, including SentinelOne (EDR/MDR/SIEM/Vulnerability Management), Abnormal Security, Adaptive Security, FortiNAC, Fortinet firewalls, and Delinea Secret Server, under the guidance of the Cybersecurity Technician.
- Monitors security alerts, events, and logs within the SentinelOne SIEM and related platforms across endpoints, servers, firewalls, network devices, and Microsoft 365/Entra ID. Assists in the investigation and triage of potential security incidents in accordance with Equitas Health’s incident response policies and procedures.
- Supports the Cybersecurity Analyst and systems administration team in processing tactical mitigations based on threat analysis, vulnerability scan results, and determination of cyber threat validity.
- Maintains awareness of current cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and trends, with particular attention to threats targeting healthcare organizations. Assists in communicating relevant threat intelligence to IT staff and leadership as directed.
- Monitors security events from servers, Fortinet firewalls with IPS, and FortiNAC network access control for potential security breaches or policy violations, and escalates or takes appropriate action as directed.
- Assists in the identification, containment, handling, and resolution of cybersecurity incidents, supporting the incident response process under the direction of the Cybersecurity Analyst and IT Director. This includes participating in incident documentation, root cause analysis, and post-incident review activities.
- Assists in the development, review, and maintenance of incident response plans, security policies, and IT procedures in support of HIPAA and CARF compliance requirements.
- Assists in administering the Adaptive Security platform, including coordination of monthly phishing simulations, annual security awareness training campaigns, and follow-up coaching for employees who require additional support.
- Assists in conducting security risk assessments, maintaining the organizational risk register, and supporting implementation of risk mitigation plans across Equitas Health’s electronic systems in alignment with HIPAA Security Rule requirements.
- Monitors SentinelOne’s Vulnerability Management module and external security bulletins for vulnerabilities applicable to Equitas Health systems. Assists in tracking and documenting remediation progress in accordance with the IT Patch Management Policy.
- Applies developing analytical judgment to evaluate the validity of security alerts, threat intelligence reports, and potential indicators of compromise, escalating findings to the Cybersecurity Technician as appropriate.
- Supports proactive security measures to prevent disruption to Equitas Health’s infrastructure and unauthorized disclosure or exfiltration of patient data and sensitive organizational information.
- Maintain client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or commensurate experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- 0–2 years of experience in a cybersecurity, IT support, or systems administration role. Recent graduates with relevant coursework, internships, or certifications are encouraged to apply.
- Organized, thorough, and has great attention to detail
- Foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts including threat intelligence, security operations, and/or incident response principles
- Familiarity with SIEM platforms preferred; exposure to SentinelOne is a plus
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), and Windows endpoint environments, including basic understanding of identity and access management concepts such as MFA, conditional access, and least-privilege principles
- Understanding of Networking (including the OSI Model, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP)
- Basic understanding of cyber risks, common attack techniques, and threat intelligence concepts relevant to healthcare environments
- High level of analytical thinking to solve problems with an understanding of technology as well as an ability to ask the right questions and apply solutions to business problems
- Effective oral, electronic and written communication with all levels of the organization using excellent customer service with ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- CompTIA Security+ certification required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire. CompTIA A+, Network+, or CySA+ also valued.
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies. Willingness to support emerging security initiatives including DLP, DNS filtering, and Microsoft Intune/Entra ID deployment as part of the organization’s security roadmap
- Ability to multi-task and can handle frequent interruptions
- Must have sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, and a demonstrated competence in working with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, persons of color), and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications required.
- Reliable transportation, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
