Kitchen Assistant - Fluno Center

Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

7 days a week from 6:00AM-10:00PM

 

Anticipated schedule

We are open for business 7 days a week.  Schedule would be 4:00pm-9:30pm.  We have some flexibility on start times but you would need to be able to work until 9:30pm to help close the kitchen.

 

Minimum Hour Expectation

12 hours a week.  You will be learning how to cook in a professional kitchen, so it is important you work at least 3 shifts a week in order to keep up with training.

 

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $15.00 to $15.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Clean, sanitize and put away dinnerware and equipment used during each shift 
• Cleaning of kitchen and general areas 
• Assisting with food service as needed
• Production and packaging of deli items
• Organize food orders into their proper locations
• Maintain clean storage areas and coolers
• Assist with restaurant and catering food preparation 
  • E.g. Making soups, dressings and slicing foods
• Use various cooking and knife techniques
  • No prior experience needed

• Show attention to detail
• Willingness to learn cooking techniques and knife skills
• Enjoys food, cooking or interested in learning
• Flexibility and dependability

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
