Work You’ll Do

Lead complex Medicaid encounter and data delivery workstreams that help government clients improve operations, decision-making, and mission outcomes. In this role, you will drive day-to-day project execution, coordinate cross-functional teams, and support leadership with clear reporting, risk management, and delivery oversight. You will also bring technical depth to client deliverables, code review, and team coaching across data and analytics efforts. This is an opportunity to combine project leadership, stakeholder coordination, and data engineering support in a high-impact environment.

As a Lead Data Engineer II on the AI & Data team, you will be responsible for…

  • Lead day-to-day management of Medicaid encounter workstreams, including workplan ownership, milestone tracking, and risk escalation with recommended mitigation actions.
  • Coordinate weekly status reporting across workstreams, review submissions for completeness and accuracy, and support leadership review prior to delivery.
  • Manage staffing and delivery coordination, including competing priorities, team burn monitoring, and onboarding support for new practitioners.
  • Facilitate client and internal meetings, including recurring status meetings and ad hoc working sessions, and support invoice review and update coordination for leadership approval.
  • Provide technical and cross-portfolio support through deliverable review, SQL and code peer review, practitioner coaching, and promotion of data engineering best practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a similar quantitative field
  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data management, or technology delivery
  • 3+ years of experience leading project workplans, milestone tracking, status reporting, and risk management for data or technology programs
  • 2+ years of experience using Structured Query Language (SQL) for data analysis, validation, or code review
  • 2+ years of experience supporting Medicaid, healthcare, or public sector data programs
  • Ability to travel 15-30%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Public Health
  • 2+ years of experience with Snowflake or another cloud data platform
  • 2+ years of experience with Python, PySpark, or data pipeline development
  • 2+ years of experience with Agile delivery methods, including sprint planning and backlog tracking
  • 2+ years of experience leading client-facing status meetings and executive reporting for technology programs
  • 1+ year of experience coaching or supervising practitioners on data engineering or analytics delivery

This compensation range is specific to New York and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $137,700 to $229,500.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
