About this role

Seabrook Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to provide technical support to NASA facilities located at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). MSFC facilities house a broad range of technical, program management and administrative functions that directly support NASA’s mission. Maintaining functionality while being highly adaptable to the ever-changing research and development environment is paramount to the success of the nation’s space exploration vision. Engineers work closely with operational units to assure efficiency and reliability in critical systems.

Position Description:

Serve as Lead Mechanical Engineer and expert on the most complex engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse mechanical equipment and systems and generally recognized as an expert in significant engineering task areas. Provides technical expertise and management over system(s) including maintaining a broad knowledge of related work issues, such as environmental and safety requirements, systems integration, monitoring and metering concepts. Maintain state-of-the-art technical expertise in assigned systems. Responsible for keeping Performance Monitors apprised of significant systems status and key events. Develop scope, work statements, specifications and packages for procurement of outsource technical consulting, operation/repair, or other services. Position will provide support to Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Facilities Operations and Maintenance Support Services II (FOMSS II) contract.

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Responsible for development of scope, work statements, specifications and packages for procurement of outsourced technical consulting, operations/repair, or other services.

2) Generate complete specifications for the most complex operations and repair projects.

3) Acts as and is recognized as a Company/industry expert resource on the most complex engineering problems.

4) Acts as a mentor to engineering team members.

5) May train other engineers on technical issues related to the research, design, development, testing and analysis of engineering assignments.

6) Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.

7) Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.

8) Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

9) Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final acceptance and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

10) Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

11) Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

12) Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.

13) Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

14) May provide technical management and leadership to a group of employees for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical and employee performance.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited school. Must have ten (10) years of job-related experience in mechanical engineering and design. Excellent communications and management skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) and progression to registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) desired. This position may require travel. This position will require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
