About the Department of Military Affairs:
The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Purpose of Position:
Manage policies and procedures for Military Affairs in the Commonwealth and oversee all legislative, congressional, grassroots, military organization and executive branch relations.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience working and interacting with the General Assembly and the Executive Branch of Virginia government;
Deep understanding of legislative processes, strong analytical skills, and a background in political science, public administration, or law;
Familiarity with government databases, legislative tracking systems, and policy analysis tools is essential;
Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills to effectively advocate for the agency's interests;
Strong communication skills both oral and written to be able to communicate with senior leadership;
Ability to track and measure high level goals and objectives;
Valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record required.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge of the Federal legislative process;
Understanding of the Virginia National Guard and its policies, procedures, and structure preferred;
Experience as a legislative liaison strongly preferred.
