What you will be doing:

As part of a small team, you’ll get a chance to make a difference in almost all aspects of our work, including working with donors, physical and intellectual processing of collections, digitizing material for preservation and access, and working on or leading a wide variety of special projects.  With a focus on physical and intellectual processing and reference, you’ll have a great opportunity to dig into Alaska’s history and culture and to put your current knowledge of archives and Alaska to great use.

The Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums promotes lifelong learning for Alaskans through Alaska’s diverse history, art & culture.  As a librarian with special collections or archives experience, you’ll play a crucial leadership role in the work of the Historical Collections of the Alaska State Library to preserve Alaska’s published and unique cultural and historical resources and provide access to students, teachers, historical researchers, employees of the State of Alaska, and the general public.  As part of a small, collegial, and cooperative Alaskan library community, you’ll also have the opportunity to cooperate with libraries, archives and museums throughout Alaska on projects and provide training and mentoring both directly and through professional organizations.

Kashevaroff Building in downtown Juneau, which we share with our colleagues in the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums.  With dedicated parking and an onsite café, the building boasts extraordinary views of the Gastineau Channel and surrounding mountains, easy access to year-round outdoor and cultural activities, and the University of Alaska Southeast just a few miles away.

Position Duties

Master's degree from an accredited college in library or information science, media services, or a closely related field;
AND
Two years of journey level professional librarian experience. This experience is met by service as a Librarian 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
