Duties

You will install, open, and repair all types of locks. Modifies and reworks locking devices, changes combination locks on safes, and opens safes whenever combinations have been lost.,You will maintain an inventory of parts and special tools in accordance with approved security procedures. Maintains up-to-date catalog system, keeping abreast of -current-changes in the locksmith field.,You will prepare drawings, diagrams and fabricating, by machine or by hand, replacement parts for existing locks.,You will identify orders, receive and maintain proper supply of key blanks in use on this base.,You will assist and work in conjunction with NIS and CID in investigating break-ins, in solving security problems relating to the locksmith trade, providing knowledge regarding method of penetration, etc.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability using locksmith trade tools and precision measuring instruments such as key cutting machines, micrometers, calipers, grinders, presses, and lock scopes; Ability to independently interpret blueprints, technical manuals, manufacturer specifications, diagrams, and sketches; Skill in troubleshooting and repairing locking mechanisms and security hardware; Experience fabricating, modifying, and fitting lock components and replacement parts.
