DCH is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Long-term Care Preceptor, Training Unit with the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division. The LTC Preceptor under general to limited supervision, will develop, conduct and coordinate training for surveyors who perform on-site surveys of Long Term Care and State Licensed facilities regulated by the state to determine compliance with applicable state and/or federal rules and regulations. This position may be asked to assist in other areas of training as needed.

Position Duties

  • Plan and organize training plans for surveyors based on CMS and State requirements. Facilitate training using a variety of delivery methods including classroom training, virtual training and on-site coaching/training.
  • Track and report on training outcomes and monitor compliance. Provide feedback to manager regarding training compliance.
  • May assist in on-boarding and training to new employed surveyors.
  • Complete training to become qualified to survey all Non-Long Term Care and State programs.
  • Expected to remain current on both federal and state requirements for Non-long term care facilities through regular training and review of materials.
  • Owns assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Coordinate training classes/activities for New LTC Surveyors.
  • Provide direction and monitor completion of required CMS computer-based training for new and existing surveyors.
  • Conduct onsite training/evaluation of new surveyors as needed.
  • Provide classroom and in the field training on Long Term Care Survey Process.
  • Ensure surveyors have most up to date surveyor resources.
  • Develop and provide continuing training and onsite training/evaluation for existing surveyors.
  • Provide LTC Training Presentations as needed

  • Track and report on training outcomes and monitor compliance.
  • Assist manager with providing in-service education to all LTC Staff.
  • Provide feedback to manager regarding training compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of job-related experience; or Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of job-related experience or four (4) years of related professional experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Complnc Specialist 2 (RCP061) or position equivalent. 

Note: Some positions may require a certification or licensure. After hire, this position is required to successfully complete all preparatory training provided, including successful completion of the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment as required by Sections 1819(g) (2) (C) (ii) of the Social Security Act, as amended, and Article IV (B) of the Agreement pursuant to Section 1864 of the Social Security Act.

Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license. Possession of a valid Georgia driver's license, which would enable the applicant to drive in Georgia, and use of a car at work (personal or rental), are required for employees in this job.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates, who have a healthcare background and in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, possess the following:
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and critical thinking skills.
  • Successful completion of CMS Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) for Long Term Care (or Non-LTC programs), or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Prior experience conducting Long Term Care surveys in accordance with CMS and/or State requirements
  • At least two years of experience facilitating professional development, adult learning, or staff training programs in a healthcare or regulatory environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS LTCSP (Long-Term Care Survey Process), federal regulations, and interpretive guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and evaluate performance in a structured training program.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable with hybrid work environments including onsite training, virtual facilitation, and independent research.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in healthcare regulations and training methodologies.
