About this role
Summary:
This is a non OTETA position. Duties include higher level skilled mechanical work in
the maintenance repair and overhauling and replacement of gasoline and diesel engines, automobiles, trucks,
heavy construction and related equipment.

responsibilities of their positions.
Responsibilities:
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Perform skilled repairs such as removing engines, transmissions or other similar units and disassembling
them in order to inspect parts for wear using micrometers, calipers, and thickness gauges while repairing
or replacing such parts as pistons, rods, gears, valves and bearings.
Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps when necessary
and while conducting periodic inspections and participating in a preventative maintenance program to
insure the safe and efficient operation of automotive and related equipment. Work may also involve
supervising and instructing subordinate mechanics and helpers.
Repair and replace fuel injection apparatus.
Require ignition systems, lights and instrument panels.
Reline and adjust brakes; align and repair steering mechanisms and front end suspension system.
Replace shock absorbers and solder leaks in cooling systems.
Replace and adjust headlights and install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors and
windshield wipers.
Perform oxygen acetylene and electric welding and some minor body repairs and painting.
Determine equipment, tools and perform calculations for materials necessary to complete assigned duties.
Coordinate projects and tasks with school staff as applicable, i.e., inform site personnel of what materials
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and/or projects may be assigned.
Operate all hand tools and power tools necessary to perform the functions of a mechanic.
Adhere to principles and practices of safe use including but not limited to operation of equipment, tools,
materials and HCPS owned vehicles including maintenance of such equipment of tools.
Perform "clean up" and work site restoration activities, i.e., pick up excess repair materials, clean flooring,
replace all tools in toolbox, wipe down surfaces.
Respond to emergency "call-outs" after hours.
Attend safety and other related training required by HCPS to keep abreast of current technology relevant
to these trades.
Perform any other duties as assigned.

a safe manner consistent with current District and OSHA regulations.

Respond to Work Order requests to repair vehicles and equipment in a timely and thorough manner.

Experience: Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in all types of automotive and
vehicular equipment.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Must possess a Class E Driver’s License and comply with HCPS
Safe Driver Plan. Phase II Class B Driver’s License must be obtained within 90 days of hire date.
Language Skills:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and
procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of
individuals.
Mathematical Skills:
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office

intensity 4 loud, work with cleaning chemicals - wear eye protection, vibration/impact, work with or near heavy
equipment, proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to electrical shock, working in high exposed places.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Testing: Eligibility for interview requires the successful passing of a written and/or
physical test verifying knowledge of basic terms and/or tools and their use.
