Job Summary

Install and maintain all types of electric meters energized at any voltage in the shop, stations, switchyards, generating plants, and on customer premises. Install and maintain distribution grid control devices and automated metering and distribution grid network infrastructure.

This position is listed in a range of Meter Electrician C-A

Please note a successful candidate should live within 45 minutes of the Lynchburg Service Center (4001 Mayflower Dr. Lynchburg, VA 24501)

Meter Electrician C:

What You'll Do:

1.) Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing

2.) Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters

3.) Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meter for proper operation and accuracy

4.) Program meters

5.) Perform Credit and Collections related order including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment

6.) Investigate irregular usage

7.) Investigate energy diversion

8.) Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures

9.) Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment

10.) Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports

11.) Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms

What You'll Need:

Education requirements are listed below: Associate's degree in electrical/electronic technology. Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician).

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: State Driver License. Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations. Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends. Work late shifts as needed. Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position. Effectively communicate with other employees, customer, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.

Promote a positive image of the Company to customer and the general public. Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct. Report hazards and abnormal conditions. Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees. There are additional expectations for the job and could include specific work experience, license / certifications, preemployment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc.

Meter Electrician B:

What You'll Do:

1.) Perform all duties of lower classifications as required

2.) Install and maintain transformer rated meters and instrument transformers

3.) Install and maintain external data recorders and associated equipment

4.) Install and maintain pulse meters, isolation relays, and associated equipment

5.) Test self-contained and transformer rated meters for proper operation and accuracy

6.) Test instrument transformers for proper operation and accuracy

7.) Investigate transformer rated service power quality problems, install event recorders and produce reports

8.) Visually inspect distribution system capacitors, regulators, reclosers, Alternate Feed Switches, and Line Voltage Monitors

9.) Disconnect and reconnect secondary services at the point of attachment

10.) Replace meter sockets and enclosures

What You'll Need:

Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years. Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment. Examples include roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel, as well as comparable military or industrial technical training. 

Work Experience requirement listed below: 24 months as a Meter Electrician C

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: State Driver License. Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Prior to promotion to this classification, successfully complete 24 months in the Meter Electrician C classification. Within 24 months of promotion to this classification, successfully complete the Company training and qualification program for this classification including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations

Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends. Work late shifts as needed Work independently under general supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. Proficiently use computers and applications related to this classification. Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner. Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the general public .Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct .Report hazards and abnormal conditions .Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees. Ability to walk long distances as determined by the Company. Ability to lift a 50 pound weight from the floor to a workbench

Principal Line of Progression: From: Meter Electrician B To: Meter Electrician

Meter Electrician A:

What You'll Do:

1.) Perform all duties of lower classifications as required

2.) Install, maintain, and test intra-change, inter-change, and generating plant meters, instrument transformers, and associated equipment

3.) Install, maintain, and test satellite, land line, ethernet, and other remote metering and associated equipment

4.) Install, maintain and test loss compensated metering and associated equipment

5.) Install, maintain, test, and operate distribution system capacitors, regulators, reclosers, Alternate Feed Switches, and Line Voltage Monitors

6.) Install and maintain distribution grid control devices and automated metering and distribution grid network infrastructure

7.) Disconnect and reconnect secondary and primary services at the pole or transformer and replace primary fuses where applicable

8.) Perform a variety of special tests and inspections related to customer bill complaints, inquiries, and energy diversion investigations. Prepare related reports

9.) Assist with and perform distribution studies including inspection of distribution equipment, circuits, analysis, and preparing reports.

10.) Operate and perform work from aerial lift devices.

11.) Develop and provide employee training.

Meter Electrician A: $58.62 per hour
