Location: The Information School, UW 
Position Title: MLIS Peer Advisor 
Anticipated Start Date: 09/16/2026 
End Date: 06/15/2027 
Approximate number of hours: 3/week

Position Description

Peer advisors provide advising support, suggestions, and feedback about coursework and other student life experiences to MLIS students. They also participate in incoming student panels, online/in-person orientations, and other opportunities to share their experiences at events led by the MLIS Program. Peer advisors also meet online/in-person with admitted incoming students prior to enrollment to answer questions about the program.

We are seeking people with a variety of qualifications and backgrounds!

Responsibilities will include the following duties:

  • Respond to current MLIS student queries via email, Discord, & Zoom
  • Participate in student events such as orientation, admitted student workshops, & panels
  • Provide peer advising in 1:1 or drop-in appointments to current & admitted students 
  • Attend quarterly trainings & meetings

 

  • Other peer-support related duties as needed

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled MLIS student at the University of Washington
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, & Outlook)
  • Must be highly organized, punctual, and reliable
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
