About the Department
OUR MISSIONOur mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) operates the regional flood control system and associated facilities in St. Bernard Parish, Eastbank of Orleans Parish, and the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish within its control in order to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events.
OVERVIEW OF THIS ROLE
The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Levee Foreman A, Levee Foreman B, Maintenance Superintendent, Operations and Maintenance Coordinator or the Maintenance Regional Director.
Position Duties
Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Other Qualifications
Job Duties:
Operates heavy motorized equipment including, but not limited to: dozers, tandem and bobtail dump trucks, loaders skid-steers, backhoes, water trucks, street sweepers, excavators, and other specialized equipment to support a variety of operations under the jurisdiction of the SLFPAE.
Filling of new sandbags as required and handling of sandbags as required. Performs any and all other related duties as needed or assigned by other higher-ranking supervisors, directors or administrative personnel.
Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment prior to beginning work. Reports to supervisor any required repairs needed on equipment.
Trains less skilled employees in operation and care of equipment.
Cleans equipment as scheduled and/or required.
Assists in performing minor repairs or preventative maintenance on equipment.
Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures in operating daily assigned equipment.
Reports to supervisor any adverse or potentially adverse conditions to levees.

Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
