OUR MISSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Responsible for operating a tractor and related equipment to cut and maintain grass along the levees and flood protection structures on the East Bank of the Mississippi River, which consists of Orleans, St. Bernard, and Jefferson Parishes.  This ensures safe and effective vegetation control to support flood risk management, visibility, and accessibility of levee systems.  

Position Duties

No experience or training is required.

Job Duties

  • Removes trash and debris from the SLFPA-E Right of Way. Operate all vehicles and equipment, required by your position, in a proper and safe manner.  Secure and trailer self-propelled equipment/mowers to jobsites in a proper and safe manner. 

  • Cutting and trimming grass within the Flood Protection Authority Right of way including, but not limited to floodwalls, poles, dead end streets and trees. 

  • Use gas/diesel powered tools and cutting equipment, operate one or more of the following types of equipment as a primary, regular and recurring function of the job including but not limited to weed eaters, pole saws, chainsaws, lawnmowers, edger, lopper, hand pruners and self-propelled cutting equipment.   

  • Performs miscellaneous labor duties such as cleaning of Maintenance yard. Washing vehicles, trimming trees, graffiti removal and sand bagging where problems develop. 

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
