About this role

About the Department

This employee will be part of the ACE Basin NERR Stewardship program, and will assist with the management of McKenzie Field Station in Bennett's Point, South Fenwick Island WMA and St. Helena Sound Heritage Preserve/WMA.
Job Duties Include:
  • Assisting with and/or conducting road or trail maintenance.
  • Preparing fire plots and assisting with prescribed burns.
  • Participating in the removal of invasive species.
  • Maintaining campsites.
  • Preparing monthly reports for the Stewardship Biologist on the status of assigned properties. 
  • Ensuring a fully functioning and properly maintained facility, equipment and grounds.
  • Maintaining archery and camping permits for DNR properties within the ACE Basin
  • Providing logistical and technical support for the Stewardship Coordinator, Stewardship Biologist, and Outreach Biologist, as needed. 
  • Ensuring proper operating condition and maintenance of agency equipment.  

Position Duties

A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of South Carolina's fish, wildlife and marine species, including their habits, habitats and natural requirements.  Ability to safely operate a boat in remote tidal waters.  Ability to lift heavy objects and complete strenuous tasks.  Ability to operate a tractor, implements, and other heavy equipment.  Ability to work in harsh environments and at odd hours, weekends and some holidays.  Knowledge of wildlife and habitat management.
