About the Department
Responsibilities of the Network Administrator:
- Responsible for planning and design of all DTO owned outside plant cable. Interpretation of state and federal codes, regulations and engineering standards required as applied to individual projects. Prepares and gives presentations to management on outside plant cable projects.
- Responsible for managing DTO owned outside plant cable projects. Performs project management of jobs including consulting with DTO management.
- Responsible for service desk tickets for DTO owned outside plant issues.
- Responsible for documentation of all DTO owned outside plant cable. Develop and maintains circuit ID information for all DTO outside plant cable.
- Backup for DTO cable locater. Responsible for outside plant cable locates in the Columbia area. Each locate is properly marked and revisited as required. In the event of damaged cable, leads the repair effort. Receives locate requests from SC811 and schedules and performs all locates as required. Perform other related duties as required or needed.
Position Duties
A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements:
- Extensive background in communications cable systems management, planning, design, construction, repair and project management, knowledge of communications systems and network design, or of network services activities.
- Requires the ability to effectively organize their work and manage their time.
- Must have extensive knowledge of communications systems and networks; including experience in producing and maintaining cable records for outside plant cable systems; an extensive knowledge of cable repair techniques which comply with national and local standards.
- Sound knowledge of computer software programs utilizing cable management software; proficient at reading construction drawings such as AutoCad or Visio.
- Demonstrated record of creating and maintaining positive, cooperative working relationships with a myriad of communications
professionals. - Position may require overnight travel.
- Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
- Position requires on-call shifts and callback.
- Position requires routine driver duties.
- Position requires frequent stooping and/or bending.
- Position requires frequent lifting: 50lbs.
- Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations.
- Must maintain an up-to-date Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Position may require work beyond the 37.5 hour work week, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must carry a mobile communications device if provided.
