About this role
Purpose
In the Advanced Technology Laboratory’s (ATL) Special Warfare Division, we deliver the Navy’s most advanced undersea sensing and communications technologies. The NSW Software Engineering Scientist Associate role will support software development on undersea sensor systems employed on Naval Special Warfare platforms.
Responsibilities
- Communicate and collaborate with team members to design and develop new software features and maintain existing software solutions
- Participate in code reviews and ensure development best practices are followed to adhere to existing coding standards and performance requirements
- Prioritize testing throughout the software development lifecycle to help identify and resolve issues
- Document software solutions, support procedures, and troubleshooting guides to foster knowledge share across all teams
- Support of travel activities associated with system acceptance testing in the field
- Troubleshoot hardware interactions and debug issues identified during system integration activities in support of on-time delivery of the system
- Other related functions as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or other related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with C++.
- Demonstrated experience with Python.
- Thorough understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, data structures/design patterns/algorithm performance analysis.
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with common application debugging tools.
- Familiarity with Linux operating system as a primary desktop.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to travel in support of system development and demonstration
- Willingness to accept feedback, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with others in the lab.
Applicant must be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, and possess sound scientific judgment. The position will require effective management of their own time with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously. Regular and punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of C++ experience.
- Experience developing multi-threaded computational software applications, and/or experience with system software tools and protocols such as gRPC.
- Experience with pub/sub messaging protocols.
- Experience with shell scripting.
- Experience integrating custom software applications with industrial embedded computational hardware.
- Experience with high-frequency SONAR or other underwater sensor systems.
- Prior military or defense system development experience.
- Immediate eligibility for access to classified information instead of.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Salary Range
$88,500-$120,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.
