Position Duties

This position supports licensed healthcare staff by providing daily care and assistance to inmates at SCI Mahanoy. It requires attention to detail, steady communication, and a strong commitment to safety and proper procedures. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vital Monitoring: Check and record vital signs, document habits, and report changes to licensed professionals
  • Personal Care: Assist with hygiene needs, provide bed care, support mobility, and help with meals and fluid intake
  • Safety Support: Observe behaviors, assist with escorts, follow infection control procedures, and maintain a clean environment
  • Record Management: Enter information in the electronic health record and complete required reports and documentation
  • Supply Handling: Sterilize equipment, track inventory, and maintain necessary stock levels
  • Training Participation: Attend required training sessions, join team meetings, and maintain necessary job certifications

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 8-hour shifts include 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM), with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedules are to be determined at the time of hire.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirement:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
