DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports nursing operations, guides staff, and helps maintain compliance with clinical and regulatory standards for the Southwestern Veterans' Center. As a Nurse Manager 1, you will perform the following duties:

Policy Input: Contribute to the development of policies that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Resident Oversight: Observe resident conditions, report changes, and maintain accurate electronic medical records
Team Supervision: Assign work, evaluate performance, manage leave requests, and support hiring and disciplinary actions
Unit Inspection: Review nursing units to address care needs and evaluate the content of nursing team treatment plans
Committee Participation: Attend assigned committee meetings and serve as chairperson when directed
Staff Support: Help resolve staff concerns by reviewing grievances, conducting investigations, and recommending solutions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 1st shift (9:00 AM to 5:30 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work weekends when an operational need exists.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years as a Registered Nurse Supervisor or three years as a Registered Nurse Instructor (Commonwealth titles) in a facility providing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; or
Six years of professional nursing experience, which includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; and a bachelor's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration. A master's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration may be substituted for up to one year of the required general professional nursing work experience; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability.

Special Requirements:

You must possess active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

This position is not subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.

You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations.

Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only - You must have or have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications:
- Registered Nurse Instructor
- Registered Nurse Supervisor
- Nursing Administrator
Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination.
The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.
Applicants must have a minimum of one year in the next lower classes by the posting closing date with no break in service.
