About the Department
An experienced nurse under limited supervision responsible for the management of a 25 patient behavioral health unit, providing twenty-four-hour coverage seven days a week. The nurse manager provides for each patient's quality care and therapeutic environment while meeting the standards set forth by different regulatory agencies. The facility deals primarily with the treatment of patients who suffer from psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions, so they are schooled in basic nursing care with further training in dealing and controlling patients in varying levels of mental derangement, whether acute or chronic schizophrenia, psychosis, or degenerative cognitive breakdown such as dementia. Supervises thirty plus employees, coordinating adequate staffing levels to ensure optimal care, welfare, security and safety of all patients and staff. The nurse manager monitors and ensures policies are being followed and procedures are conducted according to the specified protocol utilizing the nursing process. The nurse manager efficiently facilitates all operational elements of the day to day running of the behavioral unit or the overall function/staffing of all units if managing the NCC office, which includes but not limited to communication between staff and the treatment team and promotes effective ongoing communication between all staff members for the purpose of delivering the best possible patient care. The nurse manager is responsible for shared administrative duties and evaluations of staff. Performs related duties as required. Mandatory overtime may be required. Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening. Applicants selected must successfully complete a background check. All employees shall be subject to drug and alcohol testing for probable cause as set forth by agency and bureau policies. This is a tobacco free facility.

Education: | None. |
Licensure/Certifications: | Current West Virginia license as a Registered Nurse (RN). |
Experience: | Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a Registered Nurse. |
Internal Applicants Only: | Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Nurse Staffing Coordinator, Nurse Supervisor, Registered Nurse and/or a specialty nursing classification (i.e. Charge Nurse, Infection Control Nurse, QAPI Nurse, etc.). |

Sharpe, Jr. Hospital holds accreditation from The Joint Commission and certification by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). The hospital offers a wide range of services to patients either committed to the hospital through civil commitment or, in the case of forensic patients, ordered through the judicial system. Through ongoing collaboration with West Virginia University’s Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, a variety of medical and clinical professionals partner with the hospital’s own staff to work diligently with patients to achieve a smooth transition back to the community after discharge.
