Join our amazing team of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners at UCSF Health, where you will serve patients directly within the Emergency Department and the inpatient setting!
The psychiatric nurse practitioners will be performing evaluations, placing and releasing legal holds, serving in both consultative and direct patient care roles. Evaluating the need for inpatient hospitalization and assisting with dispositioning and after-care needs.
Responsibilities
- Function as appropriate to their “scope of practice.” In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per their approved standardized procedures. Familiarity with state statute for their licenses is necessary.
- Necessary privileges should be identified by the APP and collaborating physician utilizing the list available on the Office of Medical Affairs and Governance (OMAG) website as they are incorporated into the credentialing process.
- The Committee on Interdisciplinary Practice (CIDP) approved privileges are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL privileges
- The APP may provide patient care in age groups based on their educational preparation and at all UCSF Health licensed settings and affiliates. All APPs are expected to participate in mentoring new APPs to practice and engage in the academic preparation of APP students.
- The APP has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role within all UCSF Health locations and affiliates.
- UCSF Health requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES, will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
- The NP is accountable to, evaluated by, and provided feedback by the UCSF supervising/collaborating physician or physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, the Administrative Practice Manager, and other APPs/colleagues’ familiar with the clinical activities of the APP professional through the OPPE and performance review processes.
- Be familiar with the expected productivity metrics in their clinical practice based on workflow phenotypes
Qualifications
Requirements:
Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing-approved or verified school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
One (1) year of clinical experience as an NP in the same specialty and setting
Active Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within two months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner experience in an Emergency Medicine setting, urgent care, or crisis stabilization unit
License/Certifications:
1. California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
2. California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
3. California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges
4. NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role
Psychiatric and Mental Health Care (PMHNP-BC).
5. California Driver License (if required for position)
6. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
7. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
8. Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS
9. Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None
