  • REPORTS TO: Nutrition Services Director and Operations Manager

  • SUPERVISES: Nutrition Services Staff

  • EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Salaried/Non-Exempt

  • SUGGESTED HOURS: 7am–3pm (may vary based on operational needs)

  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 205 Days per year

JOB GOAL

The Nutrition Services Site Supervisor serves as a critical liaison between the Central Office and the School Cafeterias. The job function includes administration, planning, implementing, and evaluating the program in order to meet the Nutrition Services Department’s goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Duties may include but are not limited to:

Site Supervision & Operational Efficiency

  • Visit sites regularly to offer support and ensure efficiency and compliance across the school district.

  • Monitor and evaluate school sites for operational efficiency, reviewing and modifying workflows to maximize productivity.

  • Manage and supervise Nutrition Services managers and employees across district schools.

  • Work with managers on employee absences and coverage needs to execute daily operational plans.

  • Work with managers and staff on work processes, establishing work schedules, and cross-training employees for increased efficiency.

  • Substitute in a school kitchen when necessary to maintain service levels.

State and Federal Compliance

  • Abide by all state and federal compliance guidelines, including Civil Rights and Professional Standards.

  • Monitor and review all USDA meal programs for compliance.

  • Complete required site visits 1x per semester to ensure program integrity.

  • Monitor the department’s HACCP program and ensure strict food safety guidelines are followed.

  • Monitor SMART Temps systems to ensure proper food safety and temperature controls.

  • Receive and maintain copies of completed Board of Health inspections and recheck reports.

  • Maintain professional decorum and confidentiality 

Inventory, Supplies, & Technology

  • Manage, track, and maintain adequate smallwares within the schools, initiating requests for equipment repairs and replacement as needed.

  • Assist kitchen managers with regular inventory needs.

  • Maintain a strong familiarity with food and supply items used throughout the district.

  • Provide technical and operational assistance with the Point of Sale (POS) System.

Professional Development

  • Maintain ongoing professional development and training to retain the latest industry knowledge, regulatory updates, and required certifications.

Professional Decorum & Confidentiality

Maintains the highest standard of professional decorum and absolute confidentiality regarding all personnel matters, student health histories and dietary accommodations, and student socioeconomic status (including free and reduced-price meal eligibility) in strict compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and USDA regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience managing a commercial kitchen is preferred. General foodservice experience is required.

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or a related field preferred.

  • Certifications: ServSafe Certified required. Must pass an approved background check.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Google Suite (GSuite) and experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Core Competencies: Must be a self-starter and highly self-motivated. Highly organized and detail-oriented.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with parents, school administrators, staff, and public/private agencies.

  • Travel: Access to reliable transportation during working hours; travel is required between schools.

  • Work Independence: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time in kitchen environments. (3)

  • Ability to lift or carry up to 30 lbs. (2)

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations. (4)

  • Ability to see, hear, and read for the purpose of reviewing laws, codes, rules, policies, and other printed or digital materials. (4)

  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. (4)

  • Ability to communicate clearly so others can understand a normal communication/conversation. (4)

  • Ability to operate office and commercial kitchen equipment. (4)

  • Ability to reach in all directions. (4)
