Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of HVAC operating systems equipment, tools, and procedures used in the operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Mechanical ability.
  • Ability to inspect, diagnose problems, and make repairs or requests to appropriate mechanics to perform the repairs.
  • Ability to maintain logs and write reports.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  1. Schedules and conducts inspections of gauges, meters, controls, and equipment such as HVAC systems to ensure that all units are operating properly and prepares inspection reports.
  2. Adjusts, services, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance and filter replacement on all HVAC equipment to ensure optimum efficiency of operation.
  3. Works and coordinates with school administrators and staff and the responsible department to provide the most energy-efficient utilization of the school's operating systems.
  4. Inspects and performs routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems.
  5. Assists with the orientation and training of professional and custodial staff in the operation of the school's mechanical equipment.
  6. Performs or assists with emergency repairs as required.
  7. Conducts systematic inspections of elementary and middle schools in the region, and assists building supervisors with mechanical maintenance activities.
  8. Maintains logs and writes reports, as required.
  9. May request and work with the maintenance staff in regular or emergency situations.
  10. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises. This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.
