About this role
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Ross Stores, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to join our in-house Legal team. This position will be based in the Company’s Corporate office in Dublin, California and will support the Vice President, Commercial and Consumer Law and other members of the Legal team.
The key functions of this position include partnering with attorneys and other paralegals to support litigation, compliance, and other commercial legal work. Responsibilities include collaboration with internal and outside counsel on legal intake, filings, case management, deadline tracking, fact development, and discovery. The role also supports research initiatives related to privacy, marketing, and other areas, and company compliance efforts related to Ross’s broader retail business. This position requires regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders and clear, effective communication to support the timely resolution of legal matters. All work is performed under the supervision and direction of a licensed attorney.
The base pay range for this role is $32.60 – $48.75. The base pay range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Litigation
• Assist outside and in-house counsel with commercial litigation including intake, filing, litigation holds, case management, deadline tracking, fact collection, document organization and discovery
• Communicate with various internal departments and vendors/vendors’ counsel to assist and support in-house counsel in the timely resolution of legal claims, demand letters, and other pre-litigation inquiries
Litigation Billing and Budget Maintenance
• Maintain and update Serengeti case management and billing database
• Assist in-house counsel with reserve reporting
Compliance Initiatives and Other Projects
• Support attorneys and paralegals in group with compliance initiatives and commercial projects as requested
• Assist with compliance related research, tracking, and internal procedures
• Assist with administrative work on occasion

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Relevant degree, certificate or equivalent training, and work experience
• Four years + experience as a paralegal in a law firm and/or corporate legal department
• Practical knowledge of civil litigation, including issues pertaining to civil procedure, discovery, document production, confidentiality, privilege, motion practice.
• Excellent organization skills, with a passion for details
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work and coordinate with a variety of internal and external contacts
• Strong analytical skills

Preferred Skills:
• Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience not required, but considered a plus
• In-house experience not required, but considered a plus. Experience in-house with litigation experience and/or in-house compliance efforts preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
